I am Josephine Banks, 18, and here is a little about me and where I’m at in life.
I studied photography for two years at my Sixth Form back in Cambridge and immediately fell in love with my camera. Learning and experimenting with different themes and genres of photography I really got to appreciate what goes into one simple photo and have a wider understanding of the photographers work.
Photography genres that I have previously been interested in are very much portrait based; Identity, issues with ethnicity and fashion photography. Although, it’s hard for me not to get along with any kind of photography I love it all even if some areas I find easier than others. Recently I’ve taken an interest in photographing architecture because of the simplicity and editing those sort of images can be really interesting because of how contrast and colour can really change what you’re looking at.
I always knew I wanted to go off in an artistic direction from a young age but never settled on what kind of art until I started Sixth Form. All my attention and ambition was focused on my photography lessons and even though I would struggle with it regularly, it was the only subject where I would actually enjoy overcoming obstacles rather than giving up or putting in minimal effort when it got tough. So that’s why I knew a Photography course was the right choice for me and because I knew I had a lot more to learn before I went off on my own to pursue it as a career.
I’ve always been very uncertain when it came to my future but recently I am determined to make photography my number one priority as far a career goes. As of what kind of photography, I’m not sure yet. I am not ready to settle into one genre just yet.
As far as experience goes I’ve dabbled in different things from working with fashion students and photographing for a beauty blog to PR work in London as the event photographer.
These are two separate links to some of my previous work over the past couple years that I hope to exceed from during my time on this course.
